In this workshop you are going to create fascinating spiraling structures resembling sea shell skeletons. With a couple of resists we will prepare hollow chambers inside the felt and after having prefelted the material to fairly good stability, these cavities can be opened and unfolded into three-dimensional structures. We’ll take a close look at suitable types of wool, layering and fiber direction to prepare a durable pre-felt that can withstand cutting and reshaping to create sculptural forms. With further felting, 3d forms will be clearly modeled and compacted to their final, stable consistency.
