Lisa Klakulak’s 4 day Sculpting Hollow Forms with Extreme Differential Shrinkage
16th June 2026 @ 8:00 am - 19th June 2026 @ 5:00 pm

Learn technique for layout/wrapping of various 2D resist template shapes in a consistent thinness of wool fiber while simultaneously integrating distinct areas of denser partial felt shapes to explore extreme differential shrinkage as a means of sculpting surface relief and unique hollow form. Participants will make partially felted sheets of fiber from varying thicknesses and states of structural integrity to cut and apply strategically in their fiber layout. Studies will focus on perimetral agitation to raise form from a single 2D plane, sculpt a variety of hollow forms from a circular template and expand on possibilities with altered template shapes. Proper fulling, the thickness of the wall in relationship to its surface area and interior volume and the amount of and placement of denser areas of partial felt as structural support will determine the forms integrity. Hand stitched structural ribbing, steam blocking and shellac stiffening will be addressed to further refine the form’s posture and presence.
