Title:Lady Southdown

Materials and Techniques:Southdown Wool, armature, Needle felt 

Inspiration: Place Farm, Glynde, East Sussex is near where I live and the home of John Ellman who introduce the breed in 1761. They became a rare breed in 1987, since the Sussex Wild Life trust has re introduced them to the Downs in2004. Various sheep breeds are used for conservation and farming on the Pevensey Marshes. They are always a joy to see whilst out including as part of the flock down the bottom of the lane I live on. I try to use Southdown wool in my needle felting when possible and suitable and promote the benefits of wool, plus the local history of wool including sheep smuggling to France
