Title: Stromness Harbour

Materials and Techniques: Vessel made using the book resist technique: merino wool, pre-felts including hand-dyed margilan silk, seacell fibres

Inspiration: I first visited Stromness, my father’s birthplace, in 1968 and most recently in 2024. My piece reflects this lifelong relationship and was inspired by the poem, Gray’s Pier, by George Mackay Brown, Orcadian writer and poet. My colour palette came from an artwork called Stromness Harbour painted by family friend, Donald Morrison.
