Artwork One
Title: Living History
Materials and Techniques: Wet Felted with a mix of merino, carded corriedale and Bergschaff wools plus a range of yarns, silk and plant fibres
Inspiration: Draynes Wood in Cornwall, an ancient oak woodland and rainforest. Immersed in the rainforest, time ceases to be linear. Instead it transforms into something cyclical or stratified; Layers of time seen in the canopy of giants that have survived for centuries, the slow decay that gives birth to new life, and prehistoric vegetation nestled amongst the new.
Artwork Two
Title: Shibori – Patience and Time
Materials and Techniques: Merino wool, corriedale wool and silk fabric felted into 3D structures using wet felting around resists.
Inspiration: We all know that wet felting is a slow rhythmic process but when creating shibori, the limits of time and patience are extended. Careful planning, meticulous binding of resists into wool and hours of gentle rubbing are required to allow the fibres to gently combine and form permanent fixed structure around the resists.
