Business name: Roving Sheep - Fibre Arts
Growing up in rural Alberta Canada, I have always had a connection with nature. From a young age I have enjoyed capturing the natural world around me through various media, but becoming an artist was not something I considered doing. I always had this vision of what art had to be and my early pieces never seemed to turn out the way I pictured them.My artistry career truly started while I was on maternity leave with my first son. As a new stay-at-home mom, I was having a hard time finding myself again. I needed something to engage my mind and allow my creative side to come forward once again. One day, I was looking through some DYI projects for our home and came across a video of a basic needle-felted owl. It was love at first sight, and Roving Sheep was born.
In our fast-paced, modern lifestyle, I think it is important to slow down and enjoy the natural beauty of the world around us. My biggest inspiration has been my children; they truly changed my perception of art. To a child a stick is not simply a stick, it is a passport to a world of make-believe. In my pieces I try and capture that whimsy and imagination, and combine it with my own memories growing up on a farm. My art gives me the opportunity not only to express childhood memories of chasing monarch butterflies around sweet-smelling lilacs, but also to show my children the joy of slowing down to observe the wonders that nature has. I want to share with you and your loved ones that same love of everyday natural beauty.
