Rosalind Stoddart’s current creative practice is through using fleece from her own alpacas. This gives her making an authentic sustainable approach – ‘From field to studio to you’ – which underlies her commitment to a gentle impact on her/the environment and a deeper connection to it. From this starting point she fuses together, and often dyes, materials making throws, rugs, hats, scarves, table runners and cushions through the techniques of nuno-felting, weaving and stitching.
Her practice is also informed and inspired by her training as a painter, her deep connection to nature, and her interest in sculptural forms, architecture, colour (often vibrant), texture and, last but not least, the magic of the transformation and exploration from raw fleece to the next unique completed piece. This way of working enables her to explore and search for a strong individual voice of direct simplicity and clarity in this complex world.
