Business name: Reena Curphey Textiles
By intertwining traditional textile techniques with contemporary design, I aim to create artworks inspired by the beauty and significance of the natural elements and materials used in my textiles.
Through my creations, I seek to raise awareness about the importance of biodiversity, sustainability, and the cultural richness embedded in our heritage, fostering a deeper connection between art, and nature, and preserving our textile design and skills. While valuing the traditions, it is my goal to bring and develop textile design and skills to fit into our modern world, where tranquility, harmony, and connection to nature play a vital role.
Inspired by the rich tapestry of natural textures that surround us I combine these visions with natural materials and local sources of fiber and wool from my flock of fiber animals. I live and work in the countryside, therefore I am influenced by the variety of colors, forms, and seasons around me. This is the best place to be connected and inspired by nature. My aim is never to copy nature, but to feel the presence of the surroundings and seasons, where we live. Living a rural life and working with traditional skills supports my artistic vision of creating more sustainable art. Felting is my main medium of textile art, which I have been working with for over 20 years. I have also been teaching a range of workshops and courses - mainly in different techniques of felting but also in other creative areas. I have actively taken part in local and international exhibitions over the last few years.
