Felted Hat Workshop – for Sauna or Everyday Wear
17 January @ 1:30 pm - 6:00 pm
£52
Join me for a relaxed, hands-on workshop where you’ll create your own felted wool hat – perfect for the sauna or as a unique everyday accessory.
In this session you’ll learn the basics of wet felting and how to felt a hat that is both practical and expressive. Sauna hats are traditionally worn to protect the head from intense heat, keeping the temperature comfortable and preventing overheating. The same techniques can be adapted to make a stylish, lightweight hat for daily wear, we will just need to add some shaping.
We’ll work with natural wool fibres, warm water, soap, and our hands – a slow, tactile process that is grounding, satisfying, and surprisingly joyful. You’ll be guided step by step, from laying out the fibres to shaping and finishing your hat, with plenty of room to personalise it through colour and texture.
No previous felting experience is needed. This workshop is suitable for beginners as well as those who want to refresh their skills.
You will learn:
How wet felting works and why wool behaves the way it does
How to shape and size a hat to fit your head
Differences between sauna hats and everyday hats
Tips for durability, comfort, and finishing
You will leave with:
A handmade felted hat (sauna or everyday style)
New skills you can use again at home
A deeper appreciation of wool and traditional making
A warm, friendly workshop where making, learning, and spending time together are just as important as the finished hat.
