SUMMARY:Felted Wall Art with Chris Lines
DESCRIPTION:This 2 day workshop will extend your design skills and build your confidence: how to compose with the basic design elements in an abstract or semi-abstract way\, without it all coming down to ‘happy accidents’. All these skills can be applied more consciously in your chosen form\, be they images\, garments\, or objects. Revel in the visual and tactile pleasures of felt-making on a scale that enables you to explore design without large-scale physical effort.\nMy workshops will give you a mental workout\, rather than a physical one!  \nIn this workshop you will be able to utilise some of your favourite techniques\, such as Nuno with fabrics and paper\, including those you have dyed or printed yourself; stitch/embroidery; ‘cracked earth’ using resists; and shibori textures to create small 3D elements;  if you choose to do so. We will also discuss finishing options\, such as edging\, backing and hanging.  \nIf you would like to add a small photographic element this is possible by prior arrangement.  \nSo that we can make the most of the two days\, when you sign up for the workshop\, you will be given further information to help you prepare\, including a preliminary look at your ideas in a one-to-one correspondence with Chris. The aim is not to put in everything you’ve ever learned but to be able to select and use the techniques you enjoy in a more artistic\, personal and creative way.

SUMMARY:Felted Lampshades in Region 2
DESCRIPTION:Create your own unique bespoke lampshades  \nChris Lines has been making illuminated felt pieces as part of her art practice since 2007. In this workshop\, you will be able to learn how to use your own handmade felt to create a beautiful and unique lampshade. The majority of the workshop will be devoted to planning\, sampling\, and making felted pieces for a lampshade of a given size and form of your choice. We will explore the possibilities of creating a thin and fine felt fabric\, with consideration to different densities as well as surface textures using fibres\, papers\, and fabrics in addition to wool to create a piece that is fascinating unlit as well as illuminated. It’s a perfect chance to experiment! You will be able to choose your own lampshade form using either a kit or your own ring set\, which may be from an existing lampshade you wish to up-cycle and re-cover. We will also look at traditional lampshade frames and how to cover them.  In two days you will be able to make enough felt for a minimum of two lampshades\, at least one of which will be completed on the second day.\nThere will be an opportunity to participate in a bulk material purchase for kits\, ring sets\, and specialist backing materials\, according to your needs. Further information about this will be given on booking.\nPlease note that there will be additional material costs for this workshop apart from the wool and fibres that you provide yourself.

SUMMARY:Faces in Felt with Chris Lines
DESCRIPTION:Back in the UK by popular demand!\nCreate Dramatic wet-felted Portraits using your own Images \nThis workshop has been taught by Chris all over the world\, including at the Felter’s Convergence in Australia\, the IFA AGM and at the recent Wool Week in Norway.\nIt is over 3 years since Chris taught this in the UK\, so we thought we’d offer another opportunity for newer members and those that haven’t done this technique\, as well as those who’d like to repeat the workshop. This particular workshop is for two days\, using monochrome techniques.\nIt is possible to work in a mixture of fleece types using natural colours\, or to use dyed fibres (e.g merino). You will be able to make an A3-sized portrait (or slightly larger) in two days\, based upon an image that you will supply to Chris in advance\, in order for her to do the digital manipulation for the technique. You can use old photos or online images\, it can be friends and family\, animals\, or famous faces. Later on\, the method is applicable to other subject matter\, if you wish to pursue it further.\nThis is a wet-felting technique\, specially-developed by Chris to enable you to make something uniquely personal\, without needing drawing ability. Past students have created family heirlooms\, memorials\, and unique gifts during this workshop.
