Zelda’s Chapeaux
In recent months my hat-making has turned to styles reminiscent of the glitz and glamor of the Roaring Twenties. Perhaps this is due to the current world in which we find ourselves. In looking back at history, just a little over a hundred years ago (1918), the world was dealing with the Spanish flu pandemic, necessitating quarantines/confinements, masks, etc., much as we are today. And when that frightening period in history came to end, along with an end to other historical turbulences such as WWI, people were ready to celebrate each and every day, which in part led to what is referred to as the ‘Roaring Twenties”. My millinery creations thus far this year are most certainly a response to our current climate and to looking forward to the day when we can once again ‘reconnect’ and enjoy a return to celebrations with friends and family in a more normal fashion. I want to be well prepared for that day so I’m preparing a plethora of hats to reimagine the Cloches which defined the millinery styles of the 1920's and the adventurous women who wore them.
Materials and Techniques
Merino wool tops, upcycled vintage silk fabric and beaded fabric. Nuno-felted, and then blocked.

Ready to Travel
