Artwork 1
Depth of Winter

This is the first of three finely layered felts that are all linked in sequence, pertaining to the time of year when they were all created. They each depict the same moorland and sky view where I live and are intended as a progression of small sketches, glimpses of a moment of transition as the seasons move on in their cyclical rhythm. Like most of us these last months, I have had more time to just gaze and walk and ‘be’, reconnecting more deeply with nature’s rhythms, with both it’s subtle and dramatic ever-changing moods. The local moorland landscape with its constantly changing hues and atmospheric skies has become a seemingly endless source of inspiration to me. So this first felt, ‘Depth of Winter’, attempts to capture the snow covered moorlands in a wintry late afternoon light.
