The felted fleeces make a beautiful feature in any home and can be used as rugs\, stunning wall hangings\, or as cosy chair or bench throws\, keeping your warm & comfortable\, especially in the winter months. This is a great introduction to learning how to work with raw fleece. The bonus is you will be helping to support British farmers by making use of their sheeps’ sheared fleeces\, the sheep enjoy their annual hair cut\, you learn news skills and take home a  beautiful work of art! \nDuring the day you will learn how to;\n*Prepare the raw fleece – skirting\, dagging & removing vegetable matter\n*Layout a backing\n*Bind the fleece together using soap\, water & elbow grease\n*Scour and wash out the lanolin and field dirt\n*Dry & Finish the Fleece\nWe’ll discuss which different breeds fleeces felt readily\, the fibres suitable for backings and two ways to finish your living fleece. SUMMARY:An Introduction to Nuno Felting
DESCRIPTION:A fabulous opportunity to advance you felting knowledge by learning how to make sumptuously textured surfaces. During the day you will learn how to fuse the traditional technique of wet felting with the contemporary nuno process. By combining wool fibres with a selection of fabrics\, we will explore how different fabrics and the way they are laid out\, interact with wool to felt creating a myriad of patterns and textures. We will make a series of samples pieces for your to take away for use as reference to aid your feltmaking\, helping you plan and design beautiful nuno fabrics for future project.  \nDuring the day you will select the colour(s) and fabrics you wish to work with to\n* gain an understanding of how and why wool fibres adhere to fabric\,\n* observe how different textured effects are possible using different weights and types of fabric and wool\,\n* apply this knowledge to make your own samplers using fabrics such as silk chiffon\, habotai\, linen\, cotton\, devore and more. \nNuno Scarf: Book an additional day on 18th May and make a weekend of it\, giving you the opportunity to put into practice the skills you learnt and make your own uniquely designed Nuno Scarf. You will dye your fabric\, design & create it your scarf design with Emma’s guidance. \nAll felting materials and light refreshments of tea\, coffee & biscuits are provided as part of the courses alongside handout notes to help you continue to enjoy making your chosen felt projects in the future. An option of lunch can be provided for £6 on each day booked. Alternatively please bring along a packed lunch. \nWorkshops runs from 10:00- 4.30pm with a break for lunch.

SUMMARY:Felt Lampshade Making Workshop
DESCRIPTION:An opportunity to create a unique piece of home decor to complement your home and learn two new skills – Feltmaking and Lampshade making! \nDay One: Using merino or a native breed wool with additional yarns and fibres such as silk\, linen and soya  – you will design and make a piece of felt fabricator your lampshade. You will learn how to lay the wool and other fibres and apply wet felting techniques to bond the fibres together. You can choose neutral tones\, bright jewel colours\, abstract patterns or more pictoral elements to create your unique design. At the end of this first half day session you will have a piece of flat fabric which you will go on to make your bespoke lampshade with. \nDay Two: Using the felt fabric prepared in the first session you will make your lampshade. Learning how to cut your felt fabric to size\, adhere a fire resistant backing and shade rings\, to construct your lampshade. This session will give you a basic understanding of how to make a drum lampshade\, equipped with these new skills\, you can apply this knowledge to future projects with confidence. \nWe will make drum lampshades of 20cm d. or 30cm diamtre. Other sizes are available on request and attract an additional material fee\, please contact me to discuss your requirements. \nThis workshop is suitable for Novice Feltmakers and those looking to extend their creative practice. DESCRIPTION:Ever wondered how to create Felt?  \nIn this introductory workshop you will learn about the ancient art of felt making\, practised by the nomadic people of Central Asia for thousands of years and now being adopted by textiles artist across the globe. \nYou will learn about the process of bonding wool fibres together using the wet felting method; from laying out the loose fibres to working them together with just soap\, water a little elbow grease\, to form a new and unique fabric. You can use your completed felted work to stitch into\, frame\, embellish other textiles with and much more. \n During the workshop you will learn…\n*about different wool types\n*tips on pulling out the fibres from the wool tops\,\n*how to layout the wool fibres to create an even\, high quality felt\n*how to embellish the surface by incorporating other fibres and yarns\n*the wet felting process \nInitially we’ll make a sample piece to learn the technique and finesse your skills\, then you can make an abstract\, decorative textured flat pieces or try creating a picture in wool. For inspiration bring along images\, sketches and photos to help you on your creative journey. \nInstruction notes are provided to take home on where to buy wool tops and recapping the process\, so you can continue practising your new skills.\nOur Learn to Felt workshop is suitable for beginners and those looking to improve the quality of their felt and finesse their skills. People of all ages are welcome. Under 16 are entitled to a discounted ticket of £25\, and must be accompanied by a full ticket paying adult.  \n This is a half day workshop available on Saturday 11th January |  Saturday 12th April\, starting at 10am – 2/2:30pm at Silversoles Studio. \nBeginners + All levels Welcome.
