Artwork 1: Treasures of Travel and Trade

Treasures of Travel and Trade – Traditionally still lifes of fruit, glass and silverware were painted to show off the wealth of the patron who commissioned the work of art. However today, we take for granted what once was considered treasures in our society, that very few could afford. I wanted to mark this moment in time, as today we are facing climate change crisis’s, our bees are dying due to pesticides, and banana plantations are facing extinction due to fungal infestations.  So very soon our fruit will once again be considered ‘Treasures’.

Thesaurus – Kaleidoscope -..as in treasure, trove………….

Materials and Techniques

Merino wool, wet & needle felting
