Silke Koch

The word “kaleidoscope” is of Greek origin and means “see beautiful forms”. I created this fish series during self-quarantine in the Corona crisis in March and April 2020. It shows beautiful forms and colours and represents my kaleidoscope at that time of the year

Artwork 1: Fish 1: Travel Bug
Inspired and instructed by Galina Titova and her online course, I took the chance to express some of my feelings and moods in these fish.

“Fish 1: travel bug” seems to be living in a distant land which is unreachable at that moment. Nearly all my travel plans fell apart.

Materials and Techniques:
Wet felted, fine Merino wool, silk fibres

Artwork 2: Fish 2: Big Heart
Inspired and instructed by Galina Titova and her online course.

I took the chance to express some of my feelings and moods in these fish. “Fish 2: Big Heart” proved to be a real challenge with her 40cm length. The dolour gradient, the gills with silk fibres and some orange silk scales as well, it was a fantastic distraction. She’s a happy fish putting me in good mood that radiates love, warmth and a big heart.

Materials and Techniques:
Wet felted, fine Merino wool, silk fibres

Artwork 3: Fish 3: Puffy Puffer
Inspired and instructed by Galina Titova and her online course.

I took the chance to express some of my feelings and moods in these fish. “Fish 3: Puffy Puffer” turned out to become a round fish, a puffer, and is about 30 cm long. His home is a warm tropical sea in the Caribbean, he told me.

Materials and Techniques:
Wet felted with a template using fine merino wool, silk fibres and wool neps
