Business name: Ullswater Felt Art
After a career in education, I started felting after my move to Cumbria. I was inspired by Cumbria‘s long history of sheep farming and my love of sheep. Cumbria and sheep are very photogenic, so I am often out with my camera looking for the perfect subject. As a guided walk leader with the Lake District National Park my walks are a constant source of inspiration. Needlefelting is an ideal medium to capture textures and colours that characterise the animals that are my subjects. Where possible I use wool from that breed. Initially, I felted portraits of local sheep, but now I do a wide variety of different breeds as well as some goats, alpacas and Highland cows. My latest project is to needlefelt the sheep, goats, ponies and cows on the Rare Breeds Survival Trust Watchlist. Many of the sheep are wool breeds and well worth saving.. 10% of rare breed sales goes to Rare Breeds Survival Trust. Commissions taken.
