Originally from a fine art background, I have worked in community arts for many years where I first learnt the basics of feltmaking. I live in the south pennines where there are plenty of sheep and a few alpacas and have long had a fascination for all the wonderful things that can be created by felting their wool. Recently, I have had more time for my own practice and discovered with great joy how it is possible to ‘paint’ with fine layers of wool fibres. So I have been experimenting with incorporating different fabrics and fibres such as silks, flax, chiffons, etc. into the wet felting and using needle felting for added definition. The moorlands, with their tapestry of seasonal colours, textures and ever-changing skies, provide me with endless inspiration, as do other beautiful landscapes where I love to go walking too.
