Barbara Meek

From a very young age I watched Mum knitting & sewing away. She made clothes and knitted cardigans for herself, 5 daughters and two sons, I guess it was a thing that many used to do out of necessity in the 60s and 70s, but she did enjoy it and we had some beautiful clothes, cardigans and beautiful floral dresses. So It is no surprise that my interests followed a natural progression in the love of all things hand made. I went on to work in the textiles world in one way or another for many years, eventually owning my own small business in interior design. But I found that something was missing as my love really lay in how materials were made and the construction of the fabrics. 1995 I had the opportunity of going to university as a mature student and a working p/t single parent. It was a hard slog but I completed it with flying colours:-) Straight after my degree I went into teaching as money was tight, 17 years of teaching in learning disability young adults in colleges, schools, private and community classes, running a small soft furnishings business understandably left me absolutely shattered and very frustrated that I still wasn’t making my own work! I gave up teaching in FE 2013 to pursue a career in feltmaking. I love to teach and share my skills, I work from a lovely studio on a farm and now enjoy painting too. It would be lovely to see you soon at one of my fun felting courses, residentials or holidays- please enquire. It would be lovely to see you so let me know if you can pop by for a cup of tea. Address Lower Drayton Farm (fun farm area), Penkridge, Staffordshire.
