DESCRIPTION:During this workshop\, participants experiment with Bergschaf wool batts to create a colourful flat sample using the ‘Slash /Reveal’ technique.\nSuitable for those with some felting experience\, I demonstrate the technique so participants can make along with me\, experimenting with Bergschaf wool batts to create a colourful slashed piece.  This wool felts easily but is much stronger than merino wool so is ideal for slashing and creating sculptural work. SUMMARY:Lisa Klakulak's 10 week Online Felt Jewelry Series\, Course 1: Foundational Structure
DESCRIPTION:Edition 12 will run February 22- May 3\, 2026 with platform access through July 12\, 2026. Develop an in-depth understanding of foundational structure for refinement\, strength and flexibility in wet felting based on the concept of space for the wool filaments to move and the direction of encouragement by the maker. Multi-dimensional form will be constructed through connecting solid forms\, 2D planes and a variety of felt encased objects within one continuous felt skin and by employing strong clasping/hinging mechanisms. Though needle felting will occasionally be employed this is a wet felting course. Demonstrated module studies are meant to be repeated\, modified and uniquely coalesced to become pathways to approach your ideas and visions through two instructor supported projects via zoom design meetings midway and at the end of this 10 week course. DESCRIPTION:Feltmakers Ireland is delighted to present ‘Water and Flow’\, a vibrant group exhibition showcasing the contemporary artwork of 67 of its members. This dynamic exhibition explores the many interpretations of water through the rich and versatile medium of felt. Several of our members are also IFA members. \nFrom gentle streams to powerful oceans\, ‘Water and Flow’ captures the many moods of water—its energy and stillness\, its capacity for renewal\, and its deep connection to human emotion\, from sorrow to joy. \nUsing fibres ranging from imported Merino wool to locally sourced Irish fleece\, participating artists have created a diverse and engaging body of work. The exhibition highlights both traditional and contemporary felting practices\, featuring techniques such as wet felting and needle felting. We will be making larger cylindrical forms by joining up panels made from partial felt using two different types of surface texture: resisted plane and raising hollow formed protrusions. We will sculpt the shoulder\, neck and mouth of the form by making strategic cuts to the cylinders’ rim\,  embedding additional partial felt shapes and exploiting differential shrinkage and directional fulling. Smaller initial studies will provide the opportunity to develop skills for perimetral fulling to create these concave and convex manipulations of surface and form.

SUMMARY:Lisa Klakulak’s 3-day Advanced Pendant Workshop: Elaborate Bezels & Bails
DESCRIPTION:This is a small scale felt jewelry course focused on layering techniques to build next level ornamental design inspired by metal jewelry mounting techniques of bezel and prong settings and elaborate bails for hanging.  Partial felt will be cut to shape a bezel\, the reveal hole to see the encased object adding versatility to the shape of the opening and the object’s color and pattern. The bezel and it’s inner edge can be textured with free-motion stitching for a more textured and detailed finish. For the second pendant\, the template of the hollow form encasement will be extended into a hollow tubular form for the hanging bail device. Partial felt will be embedded in this layout to sculpt concave and convex curves using differential shrinkage and circumferential fulling to create dimensional form.

These can be opened later to form an expressive structure with inside – outside contrasts.\nA well-planned layout will already predetermine in which way you can transform and shape your felt object in the end. We’ll have a look at the characteristics of batts\, prefelt\, tops and their interaction\,\nand see which combination and setting of resists can give you the best spatial effect.\nTogether we will discuss technical details\, options and try to find solutions for tricky situations. This way\, all participants can learn from each other\, understand parallels and differences of several\nsituations in the felting process and find more confidence in their personal creative practice.\n(Participants should have at least basic knowledge about the foundations of felting. Some experience in working with resists can be helpful. If you have only little experience\, you can start with a more simple\, small size object.)

SUMMARY:Lisa Klakulak - Advanced Object Encased Pendants: Elaborate Bezels and Bails
DESCRIPTION:This is a small scale felt jewelry course focused on layering techniques to build next level \nornamental design inspired by metal jewelry mounting techniques of bezel and prong settings \nand elaborate bails for hanging. Partial felt will be cut to shape a bezel\, the reveal hole to see the \nencased object adding versatility to the shape of the opening and the object’s color and pattern. \nThe bezel and it’s inner edge can be textured with free-motion stitching for a more textured and \ndetailed finish. For the second pendant\, the template of the hollow form encasement will be \nextended into a hollow tubular form for the hanging bail device. Partial felt will be embedded in \nthis layout to sculpt concave and convex curves using differential shrinkage and circumferential \nfulling to create dimensional form. \nImportant: This course is for those who have taken Lisa’s Resist-based Pendants in person workshop and/or completed both of STRONGFELT’s Online & Onpoint! DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, participants will explore the sculptural potential of felt through the development of hollow forms. \nYou will learn how to build volume using a resist\, gaining control over shape and structure from the inside out. Through an in-depth exploration of differential shrinkage and directional fulling\, you will discover how density\, fiber placement\, and movement can dramatically influence form. \nWe will also experiment with gum arabic and steam curing techniques to refine\, strengthen\, and enhance the final surface and structural presence of your felt pieces. \nBy the end of the workshop\, you will have expanded your technical skills and developed new ways of thinking about sculptural form in felt.

SUMMARY:Lisa Klakulak's 4 day Sculpting Hollow Forms with Extreme Differential Shrinkage
DESCRIPTION:Learn technique for layout/wrapping of various 2D resist template shapes in a consistent thinness of wool fiber while simultaneously integrating distinct areas of denser partial felt shapes to explore extreme differential shrinkage as a means of sculpting surface relief and unique hollow form. Participants will make partially felted sheets of fiber from varying thicknesses and states of structural integrity to cut and apply strategically in their fiber layout. Studies will focus on perimetral agitation to raise form from a single 2D plane\, sculpt a variety of hollow forms from a circular template and expand on possibilities with altered template shapes. Proper fulling\, the thickness of the wall in relationship to its surface area and interior volume and the amount of and placement of denser areas of partial felt as structural support will determine the forms integrity. Hand stitched structural ribbing\, steam blocking and shellac stiffening will be addressed to further refine the form’s posture and presence.
