SUMMARY:Felted Fleece Rug Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Trish O’Meara of Wormit Woolies will lead you through the ancient craft of wet felting to create your very own one of a kind felted fleece rug from the fleece of a living Jacob sheep grown here at Burmieston Farm. Jacob sheep are a domestic breed combining two characteristics\, spotted or piebald fleece and horns\, often as many as 4. For centuries\, they were kept as lawn ornaments for wealthy landowners. In modern times they are reared for wool\, meat and skins.\nWet felting is the oldest form of textile making and has been recognized as a heritage craft in the UK since the 1100’s. It has a rich history in Scotland with something known as ‘Waulking”. Waulking\, also known as fulling\, is a traditional Scottish process of soaking the fabric in water\, followed by rhythmic beating and kneading\, typically accompanied by singing Gaelic songs. This process makes the fabric denser and more durable.\nThis is a practical workshop but you’ll also get loads of theory along the way. Come prepared for an upper body workout and wear comfortable clothes and appropriate footwear as felting can be physically demanding with part of the process taking place outside. You will be provided with a plastic apron along with everything else needed to create your very own one of a kind felted fleece rug.\nHot and cold drinks plus a delicious homemade lunch is included. DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, you’ll be guided on how to make an adorable Christmas Gonk\, ready for the festive season. Colours and accessories will be entirely your choice!\nAll materials and tools will be provided for you\, just bring your creativity (and a little money if you want food/drink from the pub!).\nIf you’ve never felted before but always wanted to\, this will be a great session to give it a try!\nIt will be held in the main back room at the Crown\, Asfordby\, starting at 18:00 and finishing around 20:30.\nSpaces are limited so message me to reserve yours now! £30 pp\nSome things to be aware of:\n– Due to the sharp items involved in this craft (needles and scissors)\, the minimum age for attendees is 16 years old. Minors can participate if accompanied by an adult\, please assess your own child’s ability for safely handling sharp objects.\n– We will be using various breeds of sheep wool\, if you are allergic to wool/animal hair and wish to participate\, please bring a mask/gloves and make the facilitator aware. If applicable\, please also bring your epi-pen.\n– Health & safety has been assessed and will be debriefed at the start of the workshop. A written assessment is available.\n– Public / Products Liability Insurance has been provided by the IFA (International Feltmakers Association)\, certificate available on request.\n– Needles can occasionally break\, each participant has a two needle courtesy replacement limit\, any further breakages can be replaced during the workshop at £1 per needle.\n– Payment is required upfront\, spaces will not be held with non-payment. SUMMARY:SCULPTURAL WALLHANGINGS – NATURE AS INSPIRATION AND TEACHER
DESCRIPTION:at Atelier La Couech\, Montbrun-Bocage\, FRANCE \nIn nature we can find a variety of beautiful forms and structures that can serve as an inspiration and starting point for felt art. In addition\, we can observe interesting and efficient architectural\nsolutions that nature has found to create stability. These basic principles of statics play an important role in the planning and creation of a 3-dimensional felt object\, too!\nIn this workshop we will go together trough the entire process of creating a sculptural wallhanging: from the idea (or inspiration) to the finished object. The challenge will be\, to find a practicable way to transform your natural model into a textile object. Step by step\, you will develop your general design\, choose suitable materials\, plan the initial layout\, position of components and shape and arrangement of resists and find technical solutions for specific details.\nDuring an experimental phase\, day 1 – 3\, we will explore various possibilities of creating 3-dimensional felted forms\, in order to draw your attention to the important aspects of the techniques\, expand your knowledge and provide you with a pool of technical possibilties.\nDay 4 you will have a day off for relaxing\, collecting ideas\, planning your individual project and/or continue experimenting individually. For inspiration\, you may want to dive into Krystel’s wonderful textile library!\nDay 5-7 is dedicated to the realization of your individual projects. Based on many years of experience and skills in sculptural felting I will give advice and support with choosing suitable techniques and guide you through the felting process.\nTogether we will discuss how to proceed with the different steps of layout and felting process and which details need special attention. As each student would work on a personal project\, the group can learn from a variety of versions and different technical aspects that might be implied.\nAtelier du Bocage\, in its co-working space\, offers a 3m wide electric felt rolling machine which can be used to help us fulling large pieces of felt.\nI’m looking forward to an exciting week of experimentation and felt art\, where we can unite and expand our ideas\, experience and creative skills! \n(students should be familiar with the foundations of felting\, some experience of felting with resists can be helpful)

Participants will make partially felted sheets of fiber in varying thicknesses and states of structural integrity to cut and apply strategically in their fiber layout. Studies will focus on perimetral agitation to raise form from a single 2D plane\, sculpt a variety of hollow forms from a circular template and expanding possibilities with altered template shapes. Proper fulling\, the thickness of the vessel’s wall in relationship to its surface area and interior volume and the amount of and placement of denser areas of partial felt as structural support will determine the forms integrity. Hand stitched structural ribbing\, steam blocking and shellac stiffening will be addressed can then be applied to further refine the form’s posture and presence.

DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, we’ll be making awesome autumnal pumpkins for your home! Have your pick of pumpkin colouring and accessories\, this workshop is perfect for beginners to felting!\nAll materials and tools will be provided for you\, just bring your creativity (and a little money if you want food/drink from the pub!).\nIf you’ve never felted before but always wanted to\, this will be a great session to give it a try!\nIt will be held in the main back room at the Crown\, Asfordby\, starting at 18:00 and finishing around 20:30.\nSpaces are limited so message me to reserve yours now! £30 pp\nSome things to be aware of:\n– Due to the sharp items involved in this craft (needles and scissors)\, the minimum age for attendees is 16 years old. Minors can participate if accompanied by an adult\, please assess your own child’s ability for safely handling sharp objects.\n– We will be using various breeds of sheep wool\, if you are allergic to wool/animal hair and wish to participate\, please bring a mask/gloves and make the facilitator aware. If applicable\, please also bring your epi-pen.\n– Health & safety has been assessed and will be debriefed at the start of the workshop. A written assessment is available.\n– Public / Products Liability Insurance has been provided by the IFA (International Feltmakers Association)\, certificate available on request.\n– Needles can occasionally break\, each participant has a two needle courtesy replacement limit\, any further breakages can be replaced during the workshop at £1 per needle.\n– Payment is required upfront\, spaces will not be held with non-payment. This is to avoid non-attendance and pay for the supplies needed. Payment can be via Paypal\, bank transfer or cash.\n– Cancellation policy\nRefunds are not available.
