SUMMARY:N° 26/01 Fascinating small hollow forms – part I\, Online workshop with Dagmar Binder
DESCRIPTION:There are 3 groups for different time zones and languages:\nGr. 1 … in English 08-11 a.m. CET\nGr. 2 … in Deutsch 10 – 13 h\nGr. 3 … in English 06-09 p.m. CET \nIn nature we can find a variety of interesting shells\, pods and capsules\, a rich source of inspiration for hollow felted forms. We can learn a lot from them in terms of architecture and stability\, important features in feltmaking\, too. In a series of small scale poppy seedpods we will practise especially a very fine and precise layout of fibres. Playing with thick and thin amounts of wool in different sections we can change shapes considerably and achieve a variety of interesting forms\, starting from the same\, relatively simple resist! \nIn my series of workshops we are looking at one theme from different perspectives and focus each time onone special technique. In module I of Hollow forms we will use a simple type of resist\, while in part II we’d explore possibilities of book resists. Part III shows additional effects and transformations that can be achieved with inclusions of prefelts or upcycling old pieces of solid felt.\nIf you like to participate in all 3 classes you can improve and expand your skills\, stepping from simple on to more complex levels and use the weeks in between classes for further practising or experimenting.\n3 parts in a bundle: 375.- € But you may also book only a single class: 139.- €\n(If you take a single class only and decide later to add the other modules\, you will also get the bundle price and pay for the last part only the remaining difference.)

SUMMARY:Felted Hat Workshop – for Sauna or Everyday Wear
DESCRIPTION:Join me for a relaxed\, hands-on workshop where you’ll create your own felted wool hat – perfect for the sauna or as a unique everyday accessory. \nIn this session you’ll learn the basics of wet felting and how to felt a hat that is both practical and expressive. The same techniques can be adapted to make a stylish\, lightweight hat for daily wear\, we will just need to add some shaping. \nWe’ll work with natural wool fibres\, warm water\, soap\, and our hands – a slow\, tactile process that is grounding\, satisfying\, and surprisingly joyful. You’ll be guided step by step\, from laying out the fibres to shaping and finishing your hat\, with plenty of room to personalise it through colour and texture. \nNo previous felting experience is needed. This workshop is suitable for beginners as well as those who want to refresh their skills. \nYou will learn: \nHow wet felting works and why wool behaves the way it does \nHow to shape and size a hat to fit your head \nDifferences between sauna hats and everyday hats \nTips for durability\, comfort\, and finishing \nYou will leave with: \nA handmade felted hat (sauna or everyday style) \nNew skills you can use again at home \nA deeper appreciation of wool and traditional making \nA warm\, friendly workshop where making\, learning\, and spending time together are just as important as the finished hat. \nTo book your place -https://shorturl.at/NJezD \nEMail Nadia – info@nadiareindesign.com the colour of the hat you are after

SUMMARY:Felted Fleece Rug Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Trish O’Meara of Wormit Woolies will lead you through the ancient craft of wet felting to create your very own one of a kind felted fleece rug from the fleece of a living Jacob sheep grown here at Burmieston Farm. Jacob sheep are a domestic breed combining two characteristics\, spotted or piebald fleece and horns\, often as many as 4. For centuries\, they were kept as lawn ornaments for wealthy landowners. In modern times they are reared for wool\, meat and skins.\nWet felting is the oldest form of textile making and has been recognized as a heritage craft in the UK since the 1100’s. It has a rich history in Scotland with something known as ‘Waulking”. Waulking\, also known as fulling\, is a traditional Scottish process of soaking the fabric in water\, followed by rhythmic beating and kneading\, typically accompanied by singing Gaelic songs. This process makes the fabric denser and more durable.\nThis is a practical workshop but you’ll also get loads of theory along the way. Come prepared for an upper body workout and wear comfortable clothes and appropriate footwear as felting can be physically demanding with part of the process taking place outside. You will be provided with a plastic apron along with everything else needed to create your very own one of a kind felted fleece rug.\nHot and cold drinks plus a delicious homemade lunch is included. If travelling from afar there are on site accommodations available. Please email hello@burmieston.co.uk to register.
