SUMMARY:N° 25/06.1 DIVERSITY - Discovering new species in felt\, Online workshop with Dagmar Binder
DESCRIPTION:Unfortunately we had to cancel the in-person-workshop planned with Fiberfusing in the Netherlands. Following the urgent request of a student who was very eager to learn the technique\, I decided to respond spontaneously to the situation and make this workshop available on the same weekend\, June 14 and 15\, in my usual\, slightly shorter online version. This might be a consolation and chance for those who subcribed for and now cannot attend an in-person-class and maybe also for some more interested students. Go ahead and send an email for enrolment! \n25/06.1 Diversity – discovering new species in felt / Artenvielfalt in Filz entdecken (139 €) \nGr. 1 June 12/13\, 2025 in English 08-11 a.m. (CEST\, Berlin time = suitable for Europe\, Australia/NZ)\nGr. 2 Juni 14/15\, 2025 in Deutsch 10 -13 h\nGr. 3 June 14/15\, 2025 in English 06-09 p.m. (CEST\, Berlin time = suitable for Europe\, America) \nGRANDE FINALE show-and-tell / Abschlusstreffen June 19\, 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. \nExperimenting and playing is a very important part of the creative process and implies an incredible potential for new discoveries and creative solutions. It is a rich source for learning more about our soft sculptural material\, wool\, and techniques we can use to transform it into a piece of art.\nIn this workshop we will take off for an exiting expedition: use only one type of resists\, assemble them into a series of hollow chambers and explore different possibilities to develop felt objects from this starting point. How far can we go with them? With changing positions of resists\, different ways of cutting\, shrinking and transforming we can create an amazing variety of forms. Of course\, we will take care to prepare a durable fibre combination in our layout that is made to survive all these experiments in good shape!\nCutting into the felted structure in particular\, opens up new insights and perspectives. It often exposes inner parts of the object and/or layers in the cuts and allows interesting 3-dimensional shapes to unfold. They may resemble seedpods\, leaves or insects\, can become a surface structure\, sculptural wall piece\, a light object or even a wearable piece of felt art!\nWelcome and enjoy a playful\, experimental workshopl! Juni\, in meiner üblichen\, etwas kürzeren Online-Version anzubieten.

SUMMARY:Visit to Museum Lapworth Museum of Geology
DESCRIPTION:Visit to Museum Lapworth Museum of Geology at The University of Birmingham. A Research Day to support the Feltmatters Minerals\, Rocks\, Crystals Theme giving an opportunity to photograph /& draw items from this incredible collection. \nI have negotiated a visit with the museum and exclusive use of the Education room\, where we will have access to the exhibits\, enabling us examine some of the exhibits in closer detail… \nMeeting Date: 14th June 2025 – Lapworth Museum\, Birmingham \nThe Lapworth Museum of Geology is one of the oldest geological museums in the UK! It was founded in 1880\, and is named after Charles Lapworth\, the first Professor of Geology at Mason College. This was the forerunner to the University of Birmingham\, and the Museum can still be found in the Grade II listed Aston Webb Building\, therefore retains its original Edwardian setting and interior. Throughout its long history\, the Museum has provided a valuable resource for students\, researchers\, and anyone with a desire to learn about geology. A visit to the Museum provides insight into how the Earth and its life began and changed through time. \nThe Lapworth Museum is located within the University of Birmingham’s Aston Webb A Block building just off the Ring Road South. This building is on the Edgbaston Campus and a map can be found by visiting https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/cultural-attractions/lapworth-museum-of-geology/visit-us The Lapworth is easily accessible by a range of sustainable transport methods\, including a five minute walk from the University Station and on multiple cycle and bus routes. \nOn weekend visitors can park on the University campus. Parking is free to all campus visitors on weekends. The nearest car park is the multistorey North East Car Park\, a pay and display venue (change only) a 10 minute walk from the Museum. Blue Badge holders must approach the University via the ring road (see our Edgbaston Campus Map above) and inform security of your needs. There are limited Blue Badge spaces adjacent to the Museum. Please note parking cannot be reserved for any members of the public. For more information\, contact lapworth@contacts.bham.ac.uk or 0121 414 7294. \nPlease let Emma at region9rc@icloud.com if you would like to attend any of the upcoming sessions. This way we can gauge interest and let the Lapworth know how many to expect. Thank you.

SUMMARY:Experimental Sculptural Techniques Using Book and Multiple Resists with Mandy Nash
DESCRIPTION:In this two day workshop\, students will learn how to design and use a book resist with additional resists to create further three-dimensional forms\, patterns\, and texture. Students will experiment with various wools and techniques to create sculptural pieces; these can be functional or non-functional\, such as hats\, containers\, or bags. Depending on the complexity and size of the chosen forms\, students should complete two pieces

SUMMARY:An Introduction to Nuno Felting
DESCRIPTION:A fabulous opportunity to advance you felting knowledge by learning how to make sumptuously textured surfaces. During the day you will learn how to fuse the traditional technique of wet felting with the contemporary nuno process. By combining wool fibres with a selection of fabrics\, we will explore how different fabrics and the way they are laid out\, interact with wool to felt creating a myriad of patterns and textures. We will make a series of samples pieces for your to take away for use as reference to aid your feltmaking\, helping you plan and design beautiful nuno fabrics for future project. \nDuring the day you will select the colour(s) and fabrics you wish to work with to\n* gain an understanding of how and why wool fibres adhere to fabric\,\n* observe how different textured effects are possible using different weights and types of fabric and wool\,\n* apply this knowledge to make your own samplers using fabrics such as silk chiffon\, habotai\, linen\, cotton\, devore and more. \nNuno Scarf: Book an additional day on 18th May and make a weekend of it\, giving you the opportunity to put into practice the skills you learnt and make your own uniquely designed Nuno Scarf. You will dye your fabric\, design & create it your scarf design with Emma’s guidance. \nAll felting materials and light refreshments of tea\, coffee & biscuits are provided as part of the courses alongside handout notes to help you continue to enjoy making your chosen felt projects in the future. An option of lunch can be provided for £6 on each day booked. Alternatively please bring along a packed lunch. \nWorkshops runs from 10:00- 4.30pm with a break for lunch.

SUMMARY:N° 25/05 Sculptural wallhanging – fossil leaf\, Online workshop with Dagmar Binder
DESCRIPTION:There’s 3 groups available\, for different time zones and languages:\nGr. 1 May 08/09\, 2025 in English 08-11 a.m. CEST\nGr. 2 May 10/11\, 2025 in German 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. CEST\nGr. 3 May 10/11\, 2025 in English 06-09 p.m. CEST \nIn this workshop I’d like to introduce another way of creating an impressive structure for a sculptural\nwallhanging. This time we’d assemble a group of hollow chambers and incorporate them in a larger\nitem. They can be opened later and manipulated manually to form an organic seamless felt object.\nThe silhouette of the sculpture will only arise from the arrangement of all individual parts.\nWe’d pay special attention to fiber combination and directions to connect all parts securly and\nprepare the material for specific shaping and deformations. With a well planned use of color through\nall layers we can even increase the dimensional effect.\nAs an example I developed this fossil leaf project for you. It will allow us to discuss and practise all\nworking steps included and enable you to apply the technique to a variety of individual felt works in\nthe future.

SUMMARY:Lisa Klakulak’s 10 week Online Felt Jewelry Series\, Course 1: Foundational Structure
DESCRIPTION:Edition 10 will run May 11- July 20 with platform access through September 28\, 2025. Develop an in-depth understanding of foundational structure for refinement\, strength and flexibility in wet felting based on the concept of space for the wool filaments to move and the direction of encouragement by the maker. Multi-dimensional form will be constructed through connecting solid forms\, 2D planes and a variety of felt encased objects within one continuous felt skin and by employing strong clasping/hinging mechanisms. Though needle felting will occasionally be employed this is a wet felting course. Demonstrated module studies are meant to be repeated\, modified and uniquely coalesced to become pathways to approach your ideas and visions through two instructor supported projects via zoom design meetings midway and at the end of this 10 week course. Images of module studies and projects created by prior course participants are viewable at https://strongfelt.com/online-coursework/ as well as more specific details regarding this course\nMax 15 participants. Nearly 10 hrs of video + 40 pages of printable PDF.

SUMMARY:Three Day Felt Play Retreat! British Columbia Canada
DESCRIPTION:April 18-20\, 2025 Imagine focused time to work side by side other felters for fun\, support and inspiration. Creston is\nbeautiful in the spring. It is likely to be green and warm earlier than many other parts of interior BC. We’ll\nbe surrounded by trees and a creek with lots of windows for light\, beautiful views\, and nature breaks.\nWe’ll make our own self-directed projects with the intention of playing with the alchemy of acid dyes on\nfelt and eco-print on felt.\nFull days of felting\, talking felt\, acid dyeing\, eco-printing and more felt. We’ll make samples of white\nwool with additions- fabrics\, fibres\, silks\, and then submersion acid dye and/or eco-print them. (a few\ndifferent times so you can make more samples to test)\nYou’ll work independently on a felt piece(s). Large\, small\, multiple\, 3D- it’s up to you. Each person will\nhave access to two large tables. By the end of the weekend you will have the option of submersion acid\ndyeing your entire piece and or eco-printing it or not! The possibilities are endless. This is a working\,\nexperimental weekend\, not an instructional class. We will all have skills and ideas to share and show.

SUMMARY:N° 25/04 Sculptural wallhanging - bark fragment with pitcher plants\, Online workshop with Dagmar Binder
DESCRIPTION:N° 25/04 Sculptural wallhanging – bark fragment with pitcher plants (139 €) \nThere are 3 groups available\, according to different time zones and languages: \nGr. 1 April 10/11\, 2025 in English 08-11 a.m. CEST\nGr. 2 April 12/13\, 2025 in German 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. CEST\nGr. 3 April 12/13\, 2025 in English 06-09 p.m. CEST \nMany of you have been asking for more sculptural felt projects – so here we’ll continue with a new\nseamless 3d creation\, a bark fragment inspired by pitcher plants. Felt develops quiet a strong\npresence in a room. The relatively small dimensions of this sculptural piece (65x30cm) will not at all\ndiminish its effect and allow us to cope with it during one weekend. As always\, I included some\ntechnical themes to enrich your felting skills:\nYou will learn how to add organic forms to a solid background felt in a fluent and natural way. We will\npractise a painterly use of colors that will help to increase the spatial effect. Another important aspect\nare combination of materials and well planned fiber direction to achieve a beautiful natural shape and\nsufficient stability for the pitchers to stand upright. Last not least\, fulling the felt to a firm consistency\nwill give it the perfect finish.

Last not least\, fulling the felt to a firm consistency\nwill give it the perfect finish.
