SUMMARY:N° 25/07 Cascade – 3 days masterclass for experienced felters\, Online workshop with Dagmar Binder
DESCRIPTION:There will be 3 groups available for different time zones and languages:\nGr. 1 July 25 and Sep 04/05\, 2025 in English 08-11 a.m. (CEST\, Berlin time = suitable for Europe\, Australia/NZ)\nGr. 2 Juli 26 and Sep 06/07\, 2025 in Deutsch 10 -13 h\nGr. 3 July 26 and Sep 06/07\, 2025 in English 06-09 p.m. (CEST\, Berlin time = suitable for Europe\, America) \nGRANDE FINALE show-and-tell / Abschlusstreffen Sep 18\, 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. \nThe cascade project will demonstrate how my sculptural wall hanging “melt” was created. However\, we will work on a slightly smaller scale so that we can manage the size of the object in the course and still get to know and practise the most important technical aspects. By combining 3-dimensional felt components and the painterly use of wool fibers we can achieve an impressive spatial effect. We will have a close look at suitable wool types\, consistency and function of the different layers and fibre directions. A mixture of different wool colors on the surface\, as if they were brushstrokes of a painting\, will give the picture depth and liveliness. When finally placing the individual levels on the background\, we’ll try to find an interesting rhythm in order to create a perspective and dynamic movement.\nOur project is a little more extensive and challenging this time and includes 3 course dates. On the first day (late July) you will get an overview and start to prepare the individual levels of the cascade. You’ll then have a few weeks to make enough individual parts for your work\, take your time to think about its final shape and maybe\, individual design features.\nThen we’ll meet again (early September) for a weekend with 2 course days\, assemble the individual parts\, add final details and complete the sculpture.

SUMMARY:Eden wool gathering
DESCRIPTION:Hello I am Wendy Erskine from ‘Eden Textiles Studio’ based in Dumfries & Galloway. I have been passionate about wool and textiles for over twenty years. I weave\, spin and felt wool taken from our own mixed flock near Wigtown. I started teaching myself through research into many different styles and techniques. I then progressed with the help of Lena Archbold’s excellent teaching.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/EdenTextilesStudio \nI have thought about bringing like minded people together at some sort of gathering for quite a while now and decided this year to create the first ‘Eden Wool Gathering’ which this year will be held at Whithorn Roundhouse in Dumfries & Galloway. I wanted the chance to promote wool in our local farming community and show people how many wonderful things can be made from it\, and the many things it can be used for. \nI am now in my third year of remission from cancer so decided to hold this great event as a charity fund raiser for our local cancer drop in centre\, based in Stranraer\, which has helped me and many other people over the years.\nhttps://www.facebook.com/p/Stranraer-Cancer-Drop-In-Centre-100057349723588/ \n\nStranraer Cancer Drop In Centre \n\nWhat will you expect to see at the ‘Eden Wool Gathering’? Well on this page you will have seen various people who will be there carrying out demonstrations\, stalls\, talks and workshops. There will also be some different livestock to meet. There will also be food and refreshments at the Whithorn Trust’s cafe and museum. Please follow us to see more over the coming months. Thank you\nhttps://www.facebook.com/thewhithorntrust

SUMMARY:N° 25/06 (Un)folding – Honeycomb structures\, Online workshop with Dagmar Binder
DESCRIPTION:There will be 3 groups for different time zones and languages:\nGr. 1 June 26/27\, 2025 in English 08-11 a.m. (CEST\, Berlin time = suitable for Europe\, Australia/NZ)\nGr. 2 Juni 28/29\, 2025 in Deutsch 10 -13 h\nGr. 3 June 28/29\, 2025 in English 06-09 p.m. (CEST\, Berlin time = suitable for Europe\, America) \nGRANDE FINALE show-and-tell / Abschlusstreffen July 03\, 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. \nIn this workshop we want to explore possibilities of building 3d foldable felted objects. With a set of basic resists we will see how they can be combined\, aligned or interlaced with each other to achieve different shapes and flexibility of an object. It’s a playful\, experimental approach but requires quiet some precision in layout. A good opportunity to have a close look at material combinations\, direction of wool fibres\, position\, order and overlap of resists – technical details that can be very helpful in many different situations in feltmaking\, for example for jewellery\, hats or decorative objects.

SUMMARY:Improving Your Equine Makes – Adult Weekend Needle Felting Masterclass
DESCRIPTION:We are back! after a break in 2024 I am running my popular equine masterclass again in 2025. \nAn adult (18+) intensive course run over one weekend (10-5 sat\, 10-4.30 sun)\, aimed at intermediate level needle felters who would like to improve their equine makes and add a better sense of realism.\nYou don’t have to be an expert\, but you will have to have made a few projects before and have an understanding of needle felting. You must be confident in making firm\, basic shapes and be ready to move on to bigger projects. \nYour tutor Natalie Brooks (Harris) is a fine artist using needle felting\, the creator of Roly Poly Ponies and a long time horse addict with a HND in equine science as well as a fine art degree.\nNatalie will spend time discussing proportions and giving an insight into equine anatomy which could help create a better understanding of how a horse is built\, how they move and therefore give you an edge when it comes to sculpting your own equine. \nYou will make a horse or pony in a standing position (no base) in the colour of your choice… please let Natalie know in advance what colour you will be making.\nThis workshop will be run over two days. In the first session you will design your horse or pony (bring some pictures if you would like to make a particular equine friend)\, make an armature from wire and a set of hooves. You will also start to use core wool to create the bulk of your sculpture.\nOn the second session\, you will add colour and details. You will be shown how to add a mane\, tail and legs\, (feather if applicable) to your horse and how to attach the feet to your sculpt.\nYou may or may not fully finish your horse during the session\, but as a minimum you will have the body musculature\, facial details and legs in place. You will leave with the confidence and materials to finish in your own time if necessary. \nSession 1 is 10:00-17:00 on Sat 21st June\nSession 2 is 10:00-16:30 on Sun 22nd June \nBooking is essential £100 per person. Please PM me to book your space. A non-refundable deposit of £50 is required upon booking\, the balance is due on or before 1st June 2025.\nAll materials are included\, though if you have a favorite needle or holder/handle or felting mat feel free to bring it along.\nNote that as the gallery will be open on the Saturday. On Sunday it will be closed and we will have the run of the downstairs gallery space.\nTea\, coffee and light refreshments are provided throughout the sessions\, but please bring your own packed lunch. \nAccommodation is not provided but there is plenty to choose from in the Dudley and Sandwell areas.\nFull Terms and Conditions can be found on the “notes” section of my page\, or are available upon request.

SUMMARY:N° 25/06.1 DIVERSITY - Discovering new species in felt\, Online workshop with Dagmar Binder
DESCRIPTION:Unfortunately we had to cancel the in-person-workshop planned with Fiberfusing in the Netherlands. Following the urgent request of a student who was very eager to learn the technique\, I decided to respond spontaneously to the situation and make this workshop available on the same weekend\, June 14 and 15\, in my usual\, slightly shorter online version. This might be a consolation and chance for those who subcribed for and now cannot attend an in-person-class and maybe also for some more interested students. Go ahead and send an email for enrolment! \n25/06.1 Diversity – discovering new species in felt / Artenvielfalt in Filz entdecken (139 €) \nGr. 1 June 12/13\, 2025 in English 08-11 a.m. (CEST\, Berlin time = suitable for Europe\, Australia/NZ)\nGr. 2 Juni 14/15\, 2025 in Deutsch 10 -13 h\nGr. 3 June 14/15\, 2025 in English 06-09 p.m. (CEST\, Berlin time = suitable for Europe\, America) \nGRANDE FINALE show-and-tell / Abschlusstreffen June 19\, 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. \nExperimenting and playing is a very important part of the creative process and implies an incredible potential for new discoveries and creative solutions. It is a rich source for learning more about our soft sculptural material\, wool\, and techniques we can use to transform it into a piece of art.\nIn this workshop we will take off for an exiting expedition: use only one type of resists\, assemble them into a series of hollow chambers and explore different possibilities to develop felt objects from this starting point. How far can we go with them? With changing positions of resists\, different ways of cutting\, shrinking and transforming we can create an amazing variety of forms. Of course\, we will take care to prepare a durable fibre combination in our layout that is made to survive all these experiments in good shape!\nCutting into the felted structure in particular\, opens up new insights and perspectives. It often exposes inner parts of the object and/or layers in the cuts and allows interesting 3-dimensional shapes to unfold. They may resemble seedpods\, leaves or insects\, can become a surface structure\, sculptural wall piece\, a light object or even a wearable piece of felt art!\nWelcome and enjoy a playful\, experimental workshopl! Juni\, in meiner üblichen\, etwas kürzeren Online-Version anzubieten.

SUMMARY:Visit to Museum Lapworth Museum of Geology
DESCRIPTION:Visit to Museum Lapworth Museum of Geology at The University of Birmingham. A Research Day to support the Feltmatters Minerals\, Rocks\, Crystals Theme giving an opportunity to photograph /& draw items from this incredible collection. \nI have negotiated a visit with the museum and exclusive use of the Education room\, where we will have access to the exhibits\, enabling us examine some of the exhibits in closer detail… \nMeeting Date: 14th June 2025 – Lapworth Museum\, Birmingham \nThe Lapworth Museum of Geology is one of the oldest geological museums in the UK! It was founded in 1880\, and is named after Charles Lapworth\, the first Professor of Geology at Mason College. This was the forerunner to the University of Birmingham\, and the Museum can still be found in the Grade II listed Aston Webb Building\, therefore retains its original Edwardian setting and interior. Throughout its long history\, the Museum has provided a valuable resource for students\, researchers\, and anyone with a desire to learn about geology. A visit to the Museum provides insight into how the Earth and its life began and changed through time. \nThe Lapworth Museum is located within the University of Birmingham’s Aston Webb A Block building just off the Ring Road South. This building is on the Edgbaston Campus and a map can be found by visiting https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/cultural-attractions/lapworth-museum-of-geology/visit-us The Lapworth is easily accessible by a range of sustainable transport methods\, including a five minute walk from the University Station and on multiple cycle and bus routes. \nOn weekend visitors can park on the University campus. Parking is free to all campus visitors on weekends. The nearest car park is the multistorey North East Car Park\, a pay and display venue (change only) a 10 minute walk from the Museum. Blue Badge holders must approach the University via the ring road (see our Edgbaston Campus Map above) and inform security of your needs. There are limited Blue Badge spaces adjacent to the Museum. Please note parking cannot be reserved for any members of the public. For more information\, contact lapworth@contacts.bham.ac.uk or 0121 414 7294. \nPlease let Emma at region9rc@icloud.com if you would like to attend any of the upcoming sessions. This way we can gauge interest and let the Lapworth know how many to expect. Thank you.

SUMMARY:Experimental Sculptural Techniques Using Book and Multiple Resists with Mandy Nash
DESCRIPTION:In this two day workshop\, students will learn how to design and use a book resist with additional resists to create further three-dimensional forms\, patterns\, and texture. Students will experiment with various wools and techniques to create sculptural pieces; these can be functional or non-functional\, such as hats\, containers\, or bags. Depending on the complexity and size of the chosen forms\, students should complete two pieces
