SUMMARY:Lisa Klakulak's 4 day Sculpting Hollow Forms with Extreme Differential Shrinkage
DESCRIPTION:Learn technique for layout/wrapping of various 2D resist template shapes in a consistent thinness of wool fiber while simultaneously integrating distinct areas of denser partial felt shapes to exploring extreme differential shrinkage as a means of sculpting surface relief and unique hollow form. Participants will make partially felted sheets of fiber in varying thicknesses and states of structural integrity to cut and apply strategically in their fiber layout. Studies will focus on perimetral agitation to raise form from a single 2D plane\, sculpt a variety of hollow forms from a circular template and expanding possibilities with altered template shapes. Proper fulling\, the thickness of the vessel’s wall in relationship to its surface area and interior volume and the amount of and placement of denser areas of partial felt as structural support will determine the forms integrity. Hand stitched structural ribbing\, steam blocking and shellac stiffening will be addressed can then be applied to further refine the form’s posture and presence.

DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, we’ll be making awesome autumnal pumpkins for your home! Have your pick of pumpkin colouring and accessories\, this workshop is perfect for beginners to felting!\nAll materials and tools will be provided for you\, just bring your creativity (and a little money if you want food/drink from the pub!).\nIf you’ve never felted before but always wanted to\, this will be a great session to give it a try!\nIt will be held in the main back room at the Crown\, Asfordby\, starting at 18:00 and finishing around 20:30.\nSpaces are limited so message me to reserve yours now! £30 pp\nSome things to be aware of:\n– Due to the sharp items involved in this craft (needles and scissors)\, the minimum age for attendees is 16 years old. Minors can participate if accompanied by an adult\, please assess your own child’s ability for safely handling sharp objects.\n– We will be using various breeds of sheep wool\, if you are allergic to wool/animal hair and wish to participate\, please bring a mask/gloves and make the facilitator aware. If applicable\, please also bring your epi-pen.\n– Health & safety has been assessed and will be debriefed at the start of the workshop. A written assessment is available.\n– Public / Products Liability Insurance has been provided by the IFA (International Feltmakers Association)\, certificate available on request.\n– Needles can occasionally break\, each participant has a two needle courtesy replacement limit\, any further breakages can be replaced during the workshop at £1 per needle.\n– Payment is required upfront\, spaces will not be held with non-payment. SUMMARY:Autumn Woodlands One Day Workshop with Susan Mulcock
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to be having Susan Mulcock visit Region 8 in October for this one day wet felted picture workshop on the theme of Autumn Woodlands. We’ve had such a good a response that we are now offering a choice of two dates which are Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th October. If you want to really immerse yourself in this project you might even want book on both these dates! \nSusan works with natural fibres and fabrics\, layering them with her own hand-dyed merino fibre to create beautiful\, textural pictures.\nIn the morning we will have fun experimenting with various fibres\, fabrics and techniques and after lunch we will move on to making our own wet-felted landscape. The felting process is very straight-forward so is accessible to all levels of experience. \nSusan will bring a variety of materials for you to use including her own spun/dyed yarns and fibres. You will need your basic felting gear plus a photo to base your design on. DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to be having Susan Mulcock visit Region 8 in October for this one day wet felted picture workshop on the theme of Autumn Woodlands. We’ve had such a good a response that we are now offering a choice of two dates which are Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th October. Please contact Pat to secure your place. If you want to really immerse yourself in this project you might even want book on both these dates! \nSusan works with natural fibres and fabrics\, layering them with her own hand-dyed merino fibre to create beautiful\, textural pictures.\nIn the morning we will have fun experimenting with various fibres\, fabrics and techniques and after lunch we will move on to making our own wet-felted landscape. The felting process is very straight-forward so is accessible to all levels of experience. \nSusan will bring a variety of materials for you to use including her own spun/dyed yarns and fibres. You will need your basic felting gear plus a photo to base your design on. You will also have the option to try layering in fabric pieces and yarns. \nYour finished piece will be approx. 26cm x 20cm & can be further embellished at home. \nBring an image of a special place\, a sketch or simply let the materials & your imagination guide you. \nThis workshop is suitable for complete beginners\, but will also bring something new to your felting if you have some experience. The session will give plenty of time to enjoy the process as well as the option to learn further techniques. \nThe gorgeous Deer Park workshop room overlooks the surrounding countryside and is filled with natural light – the perfect space for our workshop! Places are limited to just 6 so that everyone gets plenty of support and attention from me. \nAs we’re above the tearooms\, the price of this workshop includes a sandwich lunch and tea with homemade scones\, as well as the usual tea\, coffee and biscuits. SUMMARY:Lisa Klakulak's 10 week Online Felt Jewelry Series\, Course 1: Foundational Structure
DESCRIPTION:Edition 11 will run September 28- December 7\, 2025 with platform access through February 15\, 2026. Develop an in-depth understanding of foundational structure for refinement\, strength and flexibility in wet felting based on the concept of space for the wool filaments to move and the direction of encouragement by the maker. Multi-dimensional form will be constructed through connecting solid forms\, 2D planes and a variety of felt encased objects within one continuous felt skin and by employing strong clasping/hinging mechanisms. Though needle felting will occasionally be employed this is a wet felting course. Demonstrated module studies are meant to be repeated\, modified and uniquely coalesced to become pathways to approach your ideas and visions through two instructor supported projects via zoom design meetings midway and at the end of this 10 week course. SUMMARY:Felted Hebridean Fleece Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Trish O’Meara of Wormit Woolies will lead you through the ancient craft of wet felting to create your very own one of a kind felted fleece rug from the fleece of a living Hebridean sheep\, grown here at Guardswell Farm. Hebridean sheep are small\, hardy Scottish sheep that produce beautiful dark fleece with a mix of brown\, black and sometimes hints of grey.  \nWet felting is the oldest form of textile making and has been recognized as a heritage craft in the UK since the 1100’s. It has a rich history in Scotland with something known as ‘Waulking”. Waulking\, also known as fulling\, is a traditional Scottish process of soaking the fabric in water\, followed by rhythmic beating and kneading\, typically accompanied by singing Gaelic songs. This process makes the fabric denser and more durable.   \nThis is a practical workshop but you’ll also get loads of theory along the way. Come prepared for an upper body workout and wear comfortable clothes and appropriate footwear as felting can be physically demanding with part of the process taking place outside. You will be provided with a plastic apron along with everything else needed to create your very own one of a kind felted fleece rug. \nWe are hosting this workshop in the beautiful Guardswell Glasshouse and will provide a delicious tea + coffee + cake break

SUMMARY:Wool in The Wolds
DESCRIPTION:“Wool in The Wolds” is Lamorna’s first solo exhibition – a collection of both 2D and 3D creations to show many different ways of using wool with other fibres such as mulberry bark\, woven linen and sari silk offcuts. The inspiration for this creative wealth has been the move North to live in The Lincolnshire Wolds (and build her own garden). As with many artists\, the big skies in this open landscape have a lot to do with stimulating her artistic expression. The geology and agriculture of The Wolds also play a part in the development of her work.  \nIn tandem with this exhibition she will be running 5 felting workshops for people to learn how to create wall hangings\, like those exhibited. \nCaistor Arts and Heritage Centre opening hours\nMonday to Friday 9.30 am to 4 pm; Saturday and Sunday 10.00 am to 4 pm

DESCRIPTION:This 4-day preparatory workshop has been developed in response to student requests and is highly recommended for those wishing to try out colour\, eye types\, hair\, fur\, plumage\, surface techniques and other special effects in preparation for making a full animal mask. \nWhether you are about to embark on your first animal mask\, or you have wet felted a mask with me before\, this workshop is an ideal opportunity to research specific aspects of your chosen animal\, develop appropriate technical responses\,  and to practise them on small samples before working on the mask itself. This eliminates some risk factors and will save you me later on\, and will give you a beer understanding of the final outcome you are trying to achieve.

SUMMARY:TREE BARKS IN FELT with GLADYS PAULUS
DESCRIPTION:This 4-day workshop looks to the world of trees as a starng point for exploring textures\, surface relief and experimental layering. There are thought to be 73\,000 tree species globally\, among which 9\,000 tree species are yet to be discovered. Roughly 40% of undiscovered tree species are in South America.  \nWith such a huge inspiraon source\, there are years of inspiraon ahead for any arst/designer. For this workshop however\, we’ll have to narrow it down to 1 or 2 tree species! We’ll study these thoroughly\, and explore ways and techniques to translate their beauty into felt.

SUMMARY:N° 25/07 Cascade – 3 days masterclass for experienced felters\, Online workshop with Dagmar Binder
DESCRIPTION:There will be 3 groups available for different time zones and languages:\nGr. 1   July 25 and Sep 04/05\, 2025 in English 08-11 a.m. (CEST\, Berlin time = suitable for Europe\, Australia/NZ)\nGr. 2  Juli 26 and Sep 06/07\, 2025 in Deutsch 10 -13 h\nGr. 3  July 26 and Sep 06/07\, 2025 in English 06-09 p.m. (CEST\, Berlin time = suitable for Europe\, America) \nGRANDE FINALE show-and-tell / Abschlusstreffen  Sep 18\, 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. \nThe cascade project will demonstrate how my sculptural wall hanging “melt” was created. However\, we will work on a slightly smaller scale so that we can manage the size of the object in the course and still get to know and practise the most important technical aspects. By combining 3-dimensional felt components and the painterly use of wool fibers we can achieve an impressive spatial effect. We will have a close look at suitable wool types\, consistency and function of the different layers and fibre directions. A mixture of different wool colors on the surface\, as if they were brushstrokes of a painting\, will give the picture depth and liveliness. When finally placing the individual levels on the background\, we’ll try to find an interesting rhythm in order to create a perspective and dynamic movement.\nOur project is a little more extensive and challenging this time and includes 3 course dates. On the first day (late July) you will get an overview and start to prepare the individual levels of the cascade. You’ll then have a few weeks to make enough individual parts for your work\, take your time to think about its final shape and maybe\, individual design features.\nThen we’ll meet again (early September) for a weekend with 2 course days\, assemble the individual parts\, add final details and complete the sculpture. \n***Das Kaskadenprojekt soll Euch zeigen\, wie mein skulpturaler Wandbehang „melt“ entstanden ist. Wir werden allerdings in etwas kleinerer Dimension arbeiten\, um die Größe des Objekt im Kurs bewältigen zu können und dabei trotzdem die wichtigsten technischen Grundlagen kennenzulernen und zu üben. Im Zusammenspiel von 3-dimensionalen Filzkomponenten und dem malerischen Einsatz der Wollfasern\, lässt sich eine eindrucksvolle räumliche Wirkung erzielen. Dazu schauen wir uns geeignete Wolltypen\, die Konsistenz und Funktion der verschiedenen Schichten und Faserrichtungen genau an. Eine Mischung verschiedener Wollfarben auf der Oberfläche\, als wären es Pinselstriche eines Gemäldes\, wird dem Bild Tiefe und Lebendigkeit verleihen. Beim Aufsetzen der einzelnen Ebenen auf den Hintergrund wollen wir versuchen\, einen spannenden Rhythmus zu finden\, um Perspektive und dynamische Bewegung in das Objekt zu bringen.\nUnser Vorhaben ist diesmal etwas umfangreicher und anspruchvoller und beinhaltet 3 Kurstermine. Am ersten Tag (Ende Juli) verschaffen wir uns einen Überblick und beginnen\, die einzelnen Ebenen der Kaskade vorzubereiten. Danach habt Ihr einige Wochen Zeit\, ausreichend Einzelteile für Euer Werk herzustellen und in Ruhe die endgültige Form Eures Werkes und evtl. individuelle Gestaltungsformen zu durchdenken.\nAnschließend treffen wir uns wieder (Anfang September) für ein Wochenende mit 2 Kurstagen\, setzen die Einzelteile zusammen\, ergänzen letzte Details und stellen die Skulptur fertig.
