Hebridean sheep are small\, hardy Scottish sheep that produce beautiful dark fleece with a mix of brown\, black and sometimes hints of grey. \nWet felting is the oldest form of textile making and has been recognized as a heritage craft in the UK since the 1100’s. It has a rich history in Scotland with something known as ‘Waulking”. Waulking\, also known as fulling\, is a traditional Scottish process of soaking the fabric in water\, followed by rhythmic beating and kneading\, typically accompanied by singing Gaelic songs. This process makes the fabric denser and more durable. \nThis is a practical workshop but you’ll also get loads of theory along the way. Come prepared for an upper body workout and wear comfortable clothes and appropriate footwear as felting can be physically demanding with part of the process taking place outside. The idea of these days is to meet up with fellow members\, to support one another in a collegiate workshop environment\, participate on the days theme\, answer felting queries\, work on your own project and make new friends with a shared interest! You never know we may even hatch exciting ideas togteher for future activities…. \nWe are holding the meetings at Cutting Edge Studio\, Malvern\, WR13 6NN which is is in easy reach of the M50 with plenty of parking space / 10 minutes by taxi from Great Malvern station. We will be asking for a nominal attendance fee to contribute to the venue cost and light refreshments.
