DESCRIPTION:A day working with raw sheep fleece to make a natural\, sheep friendly and sustainable rug. The felted fleeces make a beautiful feature in any home and can be used as rugs\, stunning wall hangings\, or as cosy chair or bench throws\, keeping your warm & comfortable\, especially in the winter months. \nThis is a great introduction to learning how to work with raw fleece. A place where unfinished work is welcome\, uncertainty is productive\, and play is taken seriously. A place designed to help you move your felt work forward with confidence and clarity.\nThis Open Lab supports you in resolving unfinished work\, strengthening sculptural decisions\, and deepening your understanding of form\, structure\, and surface. You bring the work; together we identify what it needs next.\nThe Lab offers dedicated studio time\, access to equipment\, professional insight\, and a supportive peer environment. You will learn how to lay the wool and other fibres and apply wet felting techniques to bond the fibres together. At the end of this first half day session you will have a piece of flat fabric which you will go on to make your bespoke lampshade with.\nDay Two: Using the felt fabric prepared in the first session you will make your lampshade. Learning how to cut your felt fabric to size\, adhere a fire resistant backing and shade rings\, to construct your lampshade. This session will give you a basic understanding of how to make a drum lampshade\, equipped with these new skills\, you can apply this knowledge to future projects with confidence. \nWe will make drum lampshades of 20cm d. or 30cm diametre. DESCRIPTION:Judit Tóth-Pócs offers an immersive workshop focused on three-dimensional felting techniques. Drawing on extensive sculptural experimentation\, she has developed a distinctive approach that combines felt with a variety of materials to enrich texture and form. \nThis course invites participants to explore the creation of different hat forms — folded ornamental hats\, flat caps\, bohemian caps\, hoods\, and hats embellished with pleated silk — while experimenting with the qualities and behavior of local wools in 3D felting. \nThrough the development of samples\, participants will learn how to design and structure a project\, selecting appropriate fibers\, resists\, and techniques. The aim is to build an independent working method\, enabling participants to plan and carry out future textile projects in line with artistic or functional goals.

Experiment with theses stitches to practice making stitched surface effects.\n*Set up the machine to create free motion embroidery. Practice using the sewing machine to develop control using free motion embroidery. SUMMARY:Raku Fiber Fusion Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Retreat to the charm of Lititz\, PA a town with a traditional Main Street for a 3 – day immersion into a 3-D felted sculptural experience when you join Ellen Silberlicht in her studio.\nEllen is known for her raku fired textural vessels which she complements with her playful wet felted sculptural tops.\nThrough hands on learning\, Ellen will share with you the techniques she uses to achieve the many sculptural forms she incorporates into her work.\nEach person may come with a few sketches and ideas to share. We will discuss ideas and construction issues that may arise. Armatures will be discussed\, techniques shared and final decisions made.\nI would expect changes in design may happen after learning the techniques. Ideas always take off when new things are shared!\nWe will\, continue to problem solve and bring each person’s ideas into being. A pause may be in order to share each participant’s approach\, for we can learn so much from one another.\nThis 3-day class will culminate with a rich garden of dancing felted forms emerging from their vessels! I can already imagine them! \nThis class is limited to 6 participants. Just 8 miles north of Lancaster\, the bustling creative vibe is celebrated on and around Gallery Row.\nMake plans to stay longer and explore the area! Karen will guide us through how to sculpt an ancient tree picture with textural bark\,  gnarled branches and twisted roots\, created using wool\, art yarn\, silk and plant materials. SUMMARY:Sculptural Wallhangings – Collages of flat and 3d components\, In-person-class with Dagmar Binder
DESCRIPTION:(students should have previous knowledge about the foundations of felting\,\nsome experience of felting with resists can be helpful) \nWool as a fascinating natural\, malleable material offers almost endless possibilities for sculptural creations. For each of my WALLHANGINGS workshops\, I’m focussing on a specific theme\, in order to examine the details of this particular approach in greater depth and take a close look at the technical details involved.\nThis year\, under the general topic COLLAGES we want to design the surface of a felted wallhanging by combining flat and 3d-elements and fusing them into one seamless piece.\nCollages are a quiet playful and stimulating way of creating a work out of bits and pieces of a variety of materials. The result is usually open-ended\, the final image only emerges during the\nprocess\, by trying out different arrangements and carefully observing how the various fragments come together and interact with each other. This allows you to experiment with different wool types and textures and create out of them a work with individual style and esthetics.\nIn flat parts\, fibres will have space to develop their beautiful structure\, while the 3d sections will bring an additional contrast into the picture and give us the opportunity to look at some features of spatial felt forms as well. You will learn about composition and consistency of suitable handmade prefelts\, possibilities for graphic and tactile surface texture\, and finally assemble all fragments in a collage that will be firmly felted onto a thick\, rather substancial base.\nWe will explore how different fibres can be used best in the felting process and how to emphasize their beauty and characteristics. In a former workshop in Montbrun we examined some typical regional wool types and can draw on some good examples in the material archive.\nBe aware though\, coarse wools are suitable for the base and larger elements\, for fine and small scale details you will need to use fine fibres. (See more details in the material list.)\nWith the group\, we will keep an eye on the individual projects evolving and point out technical details\, so you can observe and learn a lot from various situations in the lively felting process.\nI’m looking forward to a new creative challenge and inspirational workshop week with you!\nDagmar Binder / www.textillabor.de
