SUMMARY:lisa klakulak - Constructed Felt Vessel: Edge Welding Textured Panels & Cylinders
DESCRIPTION:A multi-tiered hollow form vessel workshop exploring both 2D and 3D template resists to create concave and convex manipulations of surface and form. Using slab built ceramic form as inspiration\, we will be joining up panels and cylinders made from partial felt with two different types of surface texture: resisted plane and hollow formed protrusions. We will also sculpt the shoulder\, neck and mouth of the form by strategically placing denser partial felt shapes in the layout and exploiting differential shrinkage and directional fulling.

SUMMARY:Lisa Klakulak’s 3-day Advanced Pendant Workshop: Elaborate Bezels & Bails
DESCRIPTION:This is a small scale felt jewelry course focused on layering techniques to build next level ornamental design inspired by metal jewelry mounting techniques of bezel and prong settings and elaborate bails for hanging. Partial felt will be cut to shape a bezel\, the reveal hole to see the encased object adding versatility to the shape of the opening and the object’s color and pattern. The bezel and it’s inner edge can be textured with free-motion stitching for a more textured and detailed finish. For the second pendant\, the template of the hollow form encasement will be extended into a hollow tubular form for the hanging bail device. Partial felt will be embedded in this layout to sculpt concave and convex curves using differential shrinkage and circumferential fulling to create dimensional form.

SUMMARY:Sculptural wall hangings with hollow chambers\, In-person workshop with Dagmar Binder
DESCRIPTION:I’m glad that Rianne Vermeulen’s FIBERFUSING in the Netherlands has found a new creative location and is inviting felt artists again to hold workshops\, now at studio TEATRAL\, De Steiger 206\, 1351AA Almere\, NL\nFOR INFORMATION AND BOOKING\, PLEASE GET IN TOUCH WITH RIANNE VERMEULEN workshopsfyofelt@gmail.com \nIn this workshop you will create a 3-dimensional wall hanging with integrated hollow sections inside a flat felt panel. These can be opened later to form an expressive structure with inside – outside contrasts.\nA well-planned layout will already predetermine in which way you can transform and shape your felt object in the end. We’ll have a look at the characteristics of batts\, prefelt\, tops and their interaction\,\nand see which combination and setting of resists can give you the best spatial effect.\nTogether we will discuss technical details\, options and try to find solutions for tricky situations. This way\, all participants can learn from each other\, understand parallels and differences of several\nsituations in the felting process and find more confidence in their personal creative practice.\n(Participants should have at least basic knowledge about the foundations of felting. Some experience in working with resists can be helpful. If you have only little experience\, you can start with a more simple\, small size object.)

SUMMARY:LISA KLAKULAK sculpting hollow forms & Partial felt density
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, participants will explore the sculptural potential of felt through the development of hollow forms. \nYou will learn how to build volume using a resist\, gaining control over shape and structure from the inside out. Through an in-depth exploration of differential shrinkage and directional fulling\, you will discover how density\, fiber placement\, and movement can dramatically influence form. \nWe will also experiment with gum arabic and steam curing techniques to refine\, strengthen\, and enhance the final surface and structural presence of your felt pieces. \nBy the end of the workshop\, you will have expanded your technical skills and developed new ways of thinking about sculptural form in felt.

SUMMARY:Lisa Klakulak's 4 day Sculpting Hollow Forms with Extreme Differential Shrinkage
DESCRIPTION:Learn technique for layout/wrapping of various 2D resist template shapes in a consistent thinness of wool fiber while simultaneously integrating distinct areas of denser partial felt shapes to explore extreme differential shrinkage as a means of sculpting surface relief and unique hollow form. Participants will make partially felted sheets of fiber from varying thicknesses and states of structural integrity to cut and apply strategically in their fiber layout. Studies will focus on perimetral agitation to raise form from a single 2D plane\, sculpt a variety of hollow forms from a circular template and expand on possibilities with altered template shapes. Proper fulling\, the thickness of the wall in relationship to its surface area and interior volume and the amount of and placement of denser areas of partial felt as structural support will determine the forms integrity. Hand stitched structural ribbing\, steam blocking and shellac stiffening will be addressed to further refine the form’s posture and presence.

SUMMARY:Lightweight Statement Felt Necklaces
DESCRIPTION:Come and learn how to make distinctive and unusual necklaces with handmade felt. These high impact necklaces are very light to wear. We will use two different 3D techniques\, one making asymmetric”pebbles” and one making round beads with a fabric wrapping to create nunofelt beads. This is small scale wet felting\, no rolling of the felt involved\, and can be done on a small table. This course is suitable for beginners and more experienced felters.\nThere will be step-by step demonstration of all techniques and examples will be on display. The course covers design ideas\, surface colour\, pattern and texture as well as finishing techniques to turn your felt into unique wearable art.\nThere will be a materials charge of £10 which covers fibres\, and jewellery findings to fasten the necklaces.

SUMMARY:Create\,Recycle\,Wear As art
DESCRIPTION:We will begin the day by making a small piece of flat felt using luxury merino and silk prefelt as a basis to which you will add surface decoration and then finish the felting process in very short time. While the felt is drying we will learn how to make fun and funky necklaces or festival headbands using up scraps of felt and fabrics together with odd buttons and beads. This is a great way to use up your stash ! After lunch\, when the felt is dry we will learn how to turn the felt into flat beads to create necklaces from your unique designer felt. Once learned\, this technique can be used with any thin fabric and can be a great way to use up short lengths or recycle well loved garments into wearable art.

SUMMARY:Weaving Cloth for Nuno Felting
DESCRIPTION:Fabulous textures can be created by laminating wool fibers to cloth with nuno felting. Using a combination of yarns of different sizes\, textures\, and fiber content\, we will break just about every weaving rule to create a delicate web of cloth. The yarns don’t need to shrink in this process because the wool roving shingled to the finished cloth does that job. We’ll spend one day weaving and the next felting. Any weight cloth can be made from Louisiana appropriate attire to ski weather warm. Best of all the sky is the limit with color and you’ll get textures no other process replicates. We’ll make a table sized piece that can be used as a scarf or cut up for other uses.
\nTaught during Handweavers Guild of America’s Convergence in New Orleans\, Louisiana\, USA

SUMMARY:FELT LAB AN OPEN SCULPTURAL REFINEMENT SPACE FOR EXPERIENCED FELT MAKERS with GLADYS PAULUS
DESCRIPTION:Felt Lab is not a conventional workshop. Think of it instead as a hybrid between a sculpture studio\, an artist residency\, and a troubleshooting clinic—a focussed development space designed for felt makers who already have a practice and want time\, space\, and expert guidance to deepen it.\nThis is a place to slow down\, experiment\, problem-solve\, and refine. A place where unfinished work is welcome\, uncertainty is productive\, and play is taken seriously. A place designed to help you move your felt work forward with confidence and clarity.\nThis Open Lab supports you in resolving unfinished work\, strengthening sculptural decisions\, and deepening your understanding of form\, structure\, and surface. You bring the work; together we identify what it needs next.\nThe Lab offers dedicated studio time\, access to equipment\, professional insight\, and a supportive peer environment. It is ideal if you are already working on your own felt sculpture\, mask\, or other 3D felted form and need space to focus\, alongside experienced guidance when questions arise.\nBring your unfinished or unresolved sculptural projects—especially those that have left you stuck\, frustrated\, or unsure how to proceed—and we will work through them together. Rather than following a set brief\, you’ll be supported in developing your ideas\, forms\, and sculptural language. \nThis format allows for far more time spent on sculpting and refinement than a standard taught workshop\, making it especially valuable for those wanting to push their work further.

SUMMARY:JUDIT POCS Wearable hats and caps
DESCRIPTION:Judit Tóth-Pócs offers an immersive workshop focused on three-dimensional felting techniques. Drawing on extensive sculptural experimentation\, she has developed a distinctive approach that combines felt with a variety of materials to enrich texture and form. \nThis course invites participants to explore the creation of different hat forms — folded ornamental hats\, flat caps\, bohemian caps\, hoods\, and hats embellished with pleated silk — while experimenting with the qualities and behavior of local wools in 3D felting. \nThrough the development of samples\, participants will learn how to design and structure a project\, selecting appropriate fibers\, resists\, and techniques. The aim is to build an independent working method\, enabling participants to plan and carry out future textile projects in line with artistic or functional goals.

SUMMARY:Sculptural Wallhangings – Collages of flat and 3d components\, In-person-class with Dagmar Binder
DESCRIPTION:(students should have previous knowledge about the foundations of felting\,\nsome experience of felting with resists can be helpful) \nWool as a fascinating natural\, malleable material offers almost endless possibilities for sculptural creations. For each of my WALLHANGINGS workshops\, I’m focussing on a specific theme\, in order to examine the details of this particular approach in greater depth and take a close look at the technical details involved.\nThis year\, under the general topic COLLAGES we want to design the surface of a felted wallhanging by combining flat and 3d-elements and fusing them into one seamless piece.\nCollages are a quiet playful and stimulating way of creating a work out of bits and pieces of a variety of materials. The result is usually open-ended\, the final image only emerges during the\nprocess\, by trying out different arrangements and carefully observing how the various fragments come together and interact with each other. This allows you to experiment with different wool types and textures and create out of them a work with individual style and esthetics.\nIn flat parts\, fibres will have space to develop their beautiful structure\, while the 3d sections will bring an additional contrast into the picture and give us the opportunity to look at some features of spatial felt forms as well. You will learn about composition and consistency of suitable handmade prefelts\, possibilities for graphic and tactile surface texture\, and finally assemble all fragments in a collage that will be firmly felted onto a thick\, rather substancial base.\nWe will explore how different fibres can be used best in the felting process and how to emphasize their beauty and characteristics. In a former workshop in Montbrun we examined some typical regional wool types and can draw on some good examples in the material archive.\nBe aware though\, coarse wools are suitable for the base and larger elements\, for fine and small scale details you will need to use fine fibres. (See more details in the material list.)\nWith the group\, we will keep an eye on the individual projects evolving and point out technical details\, so you can observe and learn a lot from various situations in the lively felting process.\nI’m looking forward to a new creative challenge and inspirational workshop week with you!\nDagmar Binder / www.textillabor.de

SUMMARY:MARJOLEIN DALLIGA a manual wool felt session in two parts
DESCRIPTION:This series of workshops offers a sensitive and experimental exploration of felting in both volume and surface. \nThe first days focus on building shapes and volumes\, while the following sessions explore texture\, relief\, and surface transformations. Through a wide range of experiments with different wools and fibers\, participants will discover sculptural approaches based on folding\, connecting\, and working with material. \nA time to explore\, test\, and be guided by the wool\, in order to better understand its behavior and develop a personal practice\, with special attention given to color effects and the transformations inherent to felting.

SUMMARY:Taschen mit 3-dimensionalen Oberflächen\, Präsenzkurs mit Dagmar Binder
