Artwork One
Title: Threads of Fire
Materials and Techniques: This piece combines hand-felted wool, silk, and viscose, blending their unique textures. The metal frame, once whiskey barrel rings, has been reshaped by blacksmiths into embroidery hoops, serving as a stark reminder that even the hottest sun can one day cool into lifeless metal.
Inspiration: I have long reflected on humanity’s role in shaping our environment, and David Attenborough’s work deepened that awareness. The sun, depicted here, represents both power and fragility—burning hot yet already showing signs of cooling, just as our world is changing. The metal rings stand as a warning: even something as vital as the sun can fade if we ignore the consequences of our actions. Our choices determine whether we accelerate decline or work to sustain life.
Connection to the Theme “Connections”:
The sun connects all life, just as global events affect us all. What happens in one country ripples across the world—shaping economies, ecosystems, and public health. This piece is also a testament to collaboration: the blacksmiths who upcycled the whiskey barrel rings gave new purpose to discarded metal, just as artists and craftspeople transform raw materials into meaningful work. In nature, as in art, connection is both our reality and our responsibility.
