Walking along a beach is my happy place where I reconnect with many happy memories, be it the sights and colours, sounds or the smells  , A particular favourite of mine is Kippford Beach which is situated  on the South East Scottish coast in Dumfries and Galloway where my family have  spent many happy holidays exploring, walking  and beachcombing . I like to visit in a variety of weathers at different times of the year, often combing the beach for hidden treasures and finds. I am particulary  inspired by Kippford, which is a small picturesque beach that is made up almost entirely of shells with some sand and shingle .  This piece was created by wet felting wool, silk and viscose fibres before embellishing with machine embroidery  and incorporates seashells found on Kippford beach as part of the work.

A few miles further down the coast from Kippford is Rockcliffe Beach, which  is another small sandy beach located at the southern end of the Dumfries and Galloway coastline and the inspiration for my second piece of work. The beach is surrounded by rocks and backs onto the small village of Rockcliffe. Once a day the beach opens to show a tidal causeway that can be walked along as long as you time your visit before the tide comes in leaving the sandy beach open for beachcombing shells and other finds. This piece was created by wet felting wool, silk and viscose fibres before embellishing with machine embroidery  and incorporates seashells, seaglass and ceramics  found on Rockcliffe beach as part of the work.
