Title: Marguerite (section)

For this piece I took inspiration from a painting by the artist James McBey, it is a portrait of his wife Marguerite, and hangs in the Aberdeen Art Gallery. I was drawn to this painting with it’s vibrant Moroccan colour palette.

For my piece of work I looked at the details in close up and zoomed in on a small section of the painting. Then using needle felting I reproduced this section in my own style. I am often drawn to close up areas as they give an almost abstract effect.

When viewing an object through a Kaleidoscope, the image is split into many small sections and again gives the impression of abstract; therefore I feel this particular piece works well with the theme of the exhibition.
