Title

Teatime

I was inspired to make this piece because for me tea drinking symbolises coming together and connecting with people. The whole ritual surrounding tea drinking is a shared experience particularly when guests arrive: putting the kettle on, getting out the best tea cups, sitting down together to share the warm, comforting drink. I chose to mount the cups on individual tiles, reminiscent of the tiles we might have in our kitchens, the centre of the home, and a place where tea is often shared. The uniform shape of the cups echoes the experience of life in lockdown where everything is the same every day as we are unable to leave our homes and meet people.

Materials and Techniques

The piece is made from silk chiffon, silk devoré, merino wool, cotton scrim, embroidery silks. The techniques used were wet felting, nuno-felting, hand stitching.

Artwork size in CM: Width 59 cm;  Length 51cm;  Depth n/a (flat piece).
