The IFA committee is very much looking forward to welcoming you at the 2019 AGM. This is the place where you can meet members in person and and directly help to develop the association with your ideas and input.

Coldharbour Mill

Coldharbour Mill is one of the oldest woollen mills in the UK having been in continuous production since 1797.  Visit their website for more information.

The cost for members to attend the AGM is £15.00 to include:

Tea/coffee on arrival, buffet lunch, a tour of Coldharbour Mill and a talk by Chris Lines:

 ‘Discovering Feltmaking on a Journey to Siberia’

Chris Lines

An illustrated talk about a unique journey to the Altai Mountains in search of the origins of felt and textile crafts and their survival in this remote corner of ‘Asian’ Russia, close to the borders with Kazakhstan, Mongolia, China and Tuva. Traditional life in yurts with transhumance nomads and encounters with felt makers prior to the re-emergence of Russia as a powerhouse of the modern craft.

Felt Workshops

Region 1 are organising two, one-day workshops to be held on Sunday, 31st March. The venue is yet to be confirmed – either Coldharbour Mill or a nearby hall.

‘Chic and Flamboyant Sculptural Hats with Texture and Attitude’

Lizzie Houghton

Long established feltmaker, tutor and Region 1 member Lizzie Houghton will teach this class.  Students will make a shaped resist and will be shown how to add texture and flaps/spikes or bumps etc, and/or fabrics to make an individual beautiful hat.  12 places only.

‘Sensational Sunsets in Nuno-Felt’ 


We are excited to offer a workshop with one of Region 1’s most exciting emerging feltmakers. Hilary Charlton Woodgate has been making felt for several years now, creating beautiful richly coloured textured garments and artwork incorporating silk fabrics developing her own unique style.  In this one-day workshop she will share with you her techniques for creating a small but stunning sunset panel.  8 places only.

Each workshop costs £60.
Priority will be given to those attending the AGM.
