An Introduction to Feltmaking
1 day workshop with Anne Rogers

Students will learn about the tradition of this ancient craft and the science behind it, then spend the day familiarising themselves with basic feltmaking skills to create a beautiful felted decorative panel. All raw materials and a homemade soup lunch provided. Please bring a small bamboo blind and some old towels. Venue: Box Village Hall, Box, Stroud GL6 9HE.

Seamless Felt Bags
1 day workshop for intermediate level feltmakers with Anne Rogers

Spend the day in the picturesque village of Box on Minchinhampton Common. Anne will demonstrate how to make seamless 3D felt items and students will spend an enjoyable day creating their own designs, going home with a robust felted bag or vessel. No seams and no stitches! All raw materials and a homemade soup lunch provided. Please bring a small bamboo blind and some old towels. Venue: Box Village Hall, Box, Stroud GL6 9HE

2 day workshop for advanced feltmakers with Anne Rogers

This exciting weekend workshop in beautiful Box village will explore the contemporary 'Nuno' technique of felting through silk chiffon to create sumptuous textured textiles. You will have the opportunity to use your skills to make a stunning lightweight felted waistcoat, wrap or scarf. All raw materials and a homemade soup lunch provided. Please bring a 3ft bamboo blind and some old towels.Venue: Box Village Hall, Box, Stroud GL6 9HE

Frome, Somerset: 27 January 2007 Felt Vessels with Clare Diprose at Black Swan Arts, Frome.

Make sculpted felt vessels from sheep’s fleece. Techniques of moulding and joining felt will be explored. The wool is many-coloured, dyed in subtle or rich shades specially for the workshop by Clare, who will guide you through the process to make a very personal piece of work. She will discuss her own imagery and working practices, suggest other approaches, and show you samples of felt and slides. Clare Diprose is a local textile artist and tutor with over 13 years experience as a feltmaker. She is drawn to skylines, patterns of light on water, the turn of a head or hand; small visions that enrich the mundane. This year, she has developed structures based on Anglo Saxon bags and our links with the land, using brambles, thorn, linen thread and felt. Her work was on show at Wood Lane, Butleigh, during Somerset Art Week and can be seen on www.somersetartweek.org.uk. Pitminster, Somerset: feltmaking workshops with Eleanor Burgess. (Did you see her work “The Master is Replaceable” in the IFA exhibition For Fingers and a Thumb at Alexandra Palace? I loved it!)

Jackie Lunn and Jenny Pepper are running a residential Feltmaking weekend retreat at Cober Hill, Cloughton, Scarborough, North Yorkshire. It starts on Friday 9th November 2007 till Sunday 11th November. It is £195 fully inclusive and the theme is "Decorative Sculptural Vessels".
