11th Southrn Hemisphere Felting Convergence 2011 - Bunbury, Western Australia

Dear Felting Group,

We are writing this note to introduce ourselves to you.  We are the Committee organising the 11th Southern Hemisphere Felting Convergence 2011 which will be held in Bunbury Western Australia from Sunday 2nd October 2011 to Friday 7th October 2011.

Convergence is a gathering of felt makers which is held every two years in either New Zealand or Australia.  It is hosted by a different group and in a different location each time. Sharing knowledge is the underlying theme of the Convergence.  Tutors give workshops on a voluntary basis and it is a wonderful opportunity to show case their work.

Your group may have members who will be interested in this event whether as tutors or participants.     We are just beginning the extensive process of organising the Convergence and have created a blog http://feltconvergencebunburywa.blogspot.com/ to communicate news on the program as it develops.  Our blog is also posting on lots of beautiful felting to whet appetites for things to enjoy in Bunbury in October 2011.

Could you please let your members know about us?  They can just look in to us occasionally at http://feltconvergencebunburywa.blogspot.com/  or subscribe to our blog by registering with us to get updates as they are given.

Pennants or 'mini' Quilts 4 London 2012

To most people the arrival of the Olympics means enjoying hours spent in front of the TV, sharing the glory of those who win a medal, commiserating with those who just miss out, and willing on the ones at the back, without whom there wouldn’t be a race. For some of the athletes it will be their one and only time to strive to achieve the seemingly impossible – standing on the podium to be awarded a medal.

Traditionally in sport, competitors exchange Pennants as a sign of friendship. To continue this tradition, and as a memento of their participation in this event, we are undertaking a project to make a Pennant (or ‘mini’ quilt) for each athlete. The project gives quilters, felt makers, embroiderers, textile artists, in fact anyone who sews (or not!), the opportunity to express their support, through the medium of fabric, fibre and stitch, and become part of the whole Olympic event in London 2012.

The Pennants can be as simple or elaborate as you require, and they can be made by anyone regardless of their level of ability or age. They can be made using any textile media - felt, fabric, cross stitch, embroidery, painted fabric, beaded - in fact anything. They need to be A3 sized (42cm x 30cm) overall and suggestions and instructions can be found on our website www.quilts4london.org.uk .

For further information call 01442 404234, email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Or send a S.A.E to, 'quilts4london', 39 Hunting Gate, Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, England, HP2 6NX.
