I'm working with a group of children on a felting project and wondered if anyone knows any felting songs that might be suitable to sing with them, and where to get them from?

Thanks,

Lyn Jenkins.

Hi Lyn

I read your request a while back and keep meaning to get back to you about the idea - it is a great one and I would be very interested if you managed to find any songs. I did however find a tongue twister in one of those funny books that are left by the owners in a holiday house we rented in April and i finally have found it:

Of all the felt i ever felt
I never felt a piece of felt
that felt the way that that felt felt
when first i felt that felt

not much but something

and then that got me thinking about my kids who are at a Waldorf school and how many songs they sing and I started playing around with the tune of row row row your boat but changing the words:

Lay lay lay the wool
carefully in a row
gently tug it into tufts
and cuddle them just so

lay lay lay the wool
now the other way
still I gently tug and lay
but these on top do go

shake shake shake the bottle
wetting down is fun
slippy, slidy, soapy suds
my hands go up and down

roll roll roll the felt
twenty times or more
then unroll, turn it once
and roll it up some more (this verse to be repeated a lot.......!!)

not brilliant poetry and I am not sure what you are doing with them, but i just did those quickly now for you while I was sitting here, so please excuse the rather childlike verse, but i think it may help if it is not too terribly late for the idea and the kids you were working with are still busy with the project... and isn't it just so VERSATILE a tune - it can even be used for needle felting??!!

Good luck and let me know if there is anything else you found.

Warm wishes

In Scotland 'waulking songs' were sung whilst fulling woven wool and in Celtic Canadian circles songs are sung at 'milling frolics'

In the past I have heard some waulking songes over the internet but can't locate them now. However I just did a quick search and came up with the following - have a look

http://www.siliconglen.com/Scotland/8_2.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waulking_song

happy felting, happy 2010
