Benefits
Felt Matters

The 100th edition of Felt Matters (formerly Echoes) was published in December 2010. The 40-page, full-colour journal has been the voice of IFA members since 1986 and began at a time when the art of feltmaking was virtually unknown in the West. IFA President Mary Burkett OBE helped to change the situation with her reports about felts from Mongolia and the Middle East in what was originally a typewritten newsletter.

Over the years, members have contributed articles on many topics from ethnographical felts and traditional skills, to experimental feltmaking and the creation of garments, accessories and large-scale installations.

Reports of workshops, symposia and international events regularly appear in the journal, as do reviews of books about feltmaking and related textile techniques. The importance of the IFA’s role to educate and inform is never forgotten, and we strive in the journal to bring you information on best practice from classrooms and community centres across the globe.

Recent issues have featured reports on public art and private passions; giant yurts and miniature hares. Every member has a felting story to tell, and we welcome submissions to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
